A member of his family told the LA Times that the signer had been suffering from pneumonia and had seen the doctor for his flu-like symptoms. He was prescribed a drug for treatment.

The following day on the way back from the shops Heavy D ran out of breathe as he arrived at his home, grabbed a railing and fell to the ground.

A person at the building saw the fall and went over to comfort the singer and reported him saying “I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe”. He was taken to hospital and died shortly after arriving (at around 1pm November 8, LA time).

Heavy D lived up to his name and was over-weight. It was also suggested that he died from a heart attack.

A coroners report is not expected for some weeks.
