Jazz legend Joe Sample of The Crusaders has died at age 75.

Sample was a founding member of Jazz Crusaders who changed their name to The Crusaders in 1971. The band performed and recorded with Joni Mitchell. Marvin Gaye, Tina Turner and BB King but their most recognised work was the Grammy nominated ‘I’m So Glad I’m Standing Here Today’ and ‘This Old World’s Too Funky For Me’ with Joe Cocker from their 14th album ‘Standing Tall’.

Sample has also recorded with Eric Clapton, Steely Dan, George Benson and The Supremes.

After his passing Neil Young bass player and friend of Joe Rick Rosas paid tribute to the legend saying “RIP joe sample…. your music will stay in our hearts and minds. JOE told us to “paint your picture” when you are playing…….trying my best joe”.

Joe Sample passed away in Houston, Texas at 9:50pm September 12. He was 75 years old.
