John Lennon 6 Disc Edition of Imagine To Be Released

by Paul Cashmere on August 24, 2018

in News

John Lennon ‘Imagine – The Ultimate Collection’ will be released as a six-disc boxed set.

The new released coming via EMI on 5 October, will feature four CDs and two Blu-ray discs with new mixes of the original album, previously unheard demos, rare outtakes and isolated tracks as well as The Evolution Documentary, a track by track audio montage of each song.

“Imagine was created with immense love and concern for the children of the world. I hope you enjoy it”, says Yoko Ono Lennon in the preface of the 120-page book that accompanies the box set.

The original album has been remixed by Paul Hicks at Abbey Road under the direction of Yoko Ono. Hicks said, “Yoko was very keen that these Ultimate Mixes should achieve three things – to be totally faithful and respectful to the originals, be generally sonically clearer overall and should increase the clarity of John’s vocals. ‘It’s about John’ she said. And she was right. His voice brings the biggest emotional impact to the album.”

A quadrophonic edition of ‘Imagine’ will be released as part of the new edition. The original album has been expanded to include “Power To The People”, “God Save Us”, “Do The Oz” and the holiday classic “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)”.

Disc 2 includes the ‘Elements Mixes’, including strings-only versions of “Imagine” and “How?” as well as the vocals-only version of “Oh My Love” and the piano, bass, and drums instrumentation for “Jealous Guy.”

For fans of Queen, John Deacon has long been the enigma of the band, a brilliant musician, masterful songwriter, and humble presence behind the scenes. Since the early 1990s, Deacon has shunned the spotlight, retiring quietly after Freddie Mercury’s death in 1991. But now, years later, he has quietly resurfaced, lending his signature alongside bandmates Roger Taylor and Brian May on a charity auction item, signalling, perhaps, that even the most private of souls can still make their mark in unexpected ways.
