John Mayer had a “great” time talking at Oxford University on Friday.

The American singer is currently promoting his new music in Europe and stopped by the Student Union to give a chat to those attending the top school in Oxfordshire, England.

E! News reports he offered advice and shared stories about his career and education with an audience for an hour-and-a-half.

John took to Twitter after the event, writing: “Thank you to the Oxford Student Union for this afternoon. It was a great event.”

The musician dressed casually and coped with the cold weather in a cable knit top.

Students gushed about getting to see the star on the micro-blogging website afterwards.

“Studying at Oxford just became worth it after seeing @JohnMAyer at the Union today! #amazing,” tweeted master’s candidate Rebecca Miles.

Some students who were involved in the talk were even persuaded to purchase the singer’s upcoming release.

One member of the audience posted about his eagerness to listen to the record.

“Great to see @JohnMayer in Oxford – excited to hear the next album!” Tom Board shared.

John’s pop star girlfriend Katy Perry meanwhile kicked off her 29th birthday Friday by performing at a school in Lakewood, Colorado in front of 2,000 students.

She donned a cheerleading uniform to sing Roar, new single Walking on Air, and her hit 2010 track Firework during the short concert, broadcast on Good Morning America.

The Colorado school was selected from several entries sent in from around the US that showed fans lip-syncing to Roar.

“It was thousands of kids coming together to ‘Roar’ and that’s what this competition means to me,” she told GMA.
