The new Lexus GS range will be the first car in Australia to feature DAB+ digital radio as standard equipment.

The Lexus system will take advantage of Australia’s DAB+ broadcasts by also providing live traffic alerts, updated road conditions, and news of closures, road works and congestions via the digital radio display.

All Lexus GS models will also feature Bluetooth capabilities including Bluetooth audio streaming and automatic phonebook transfer as well as voice control for iPod.

Commercial Radio Australia CEO Joan Warner welcomed the move by Lexus saying, “The announcement by Lexus to include Digital Radio DAB+ as standard in the GS is an exciting start to 2012 for digital radio.
“It is the first luxury vehicle to offer digital radio as standard and I know Lexus drivers will enjoy the digital sound quality and additional stations available.”

DAB+ in Australia offers 22 additional radio stations in five capital city markets. Trials are currently being conducted in Canberra and Darwin.

The Lexus GS models will still include FM and AM bands for back-up in non-DAB+ markets.

The new Lexus GS range will be released in Australia in April, 2012.
