Macklemore has confirmed he became a dad two months ago.
The rapper and partner Tricia Davis welcomed their daughter Sloane Ava Simone Haggerty on May 29, he confirmed on Wednesday. To celebrate her arrival, the first time dad released a new track called Growing Up (Sloane’s Song) which features British singer Ed Sheeran.
‘There is nothing like the joy and happiness that comes from bringing a baby into this universe. She has filled my heart in ways that I never knew were possible,’ he wrote on his website. ‘She is the love of my life. This song is for her.’
Meanwhile Tricia confirmed that she had given birth on her own Instagram, posting a black and white photo of her beau holding their little girl against his chest. She also validated that the pair had actually tied the knot less than a month after the labour.
‘We had our beautiful baby girl on May 29th. Got married on June 27th once the Supreme Court ruled same sex couples could too. And now new music. Thank you all for being patient, this year has been incredible so far, we love you. (sic)’ she wrote.
Macklemore, real name Ben Haggerty, had previously hinted at tying the knot with Tricia in a Twitter post, saying that June 27 felt ‘like a good day to get married. (sic)’.
The Thrift Shop emcee recently revealed that he had relapsed into taking sleeping pills last year. But on discovering he was to be a dad, he was able to clean up his act.
‘I’ve been trying to grow up this year. Since I heard that Tricia was pregnant, I was like, ‘I need to grow up right now.’ The sobriety was the wake-up call that I needed,’ he told Complex magazine.
