The Blink-182 star has been discussing some of his most beloved things, including his favourite tome.

Mark says Thomas Harris’ 1981 book Red Dragon ‘ the first novel to feature serial killer Dr. Hannibal Lecter – had a profound effect on him.

‘[It] was written a long, long time ago, but it’s the original of the CSI series and it made me want to join the FBI and out on some gloves and catch killer,’ he explained in an interview with NME magazine.

Mark has also discussed the first album he ever bought. The 39-year-old musician is still inspired by Michael Jackson years on.

‘The first album I ever bought with my own money was on cassette and it was in 1982 and it was Michael Jackson’s Thriller,’ he revealed.

‘The front-of-house manager for our tour uses Billie Jean as the song to EQ to entire system, so I still hear that song two or three times every single day.’

Mark also revealed his most beloved song lyric.

The American guitarist says The Beatles She’s Leaving Home left a lasting impression on him since first hearing it.

‘For some reason that song has always affected me in a way that I can’t quite explain and has even almost made me break down and cry,’ he said.

‘Right at the end, the part where it goes ‘She’s leaving home/Bye bye’ it’s a simple lyric, but in that context it’s so powerful.’

Rising Festival, Beth Gibbons, Hamer Hall 1st June 2025 #REVIEW

The blue-coloured- light drenched the stage, signifying the trademark colour of Rising. Beth Gibbons is here as part of Rising festival to showcase her solo album, Lives Outgrown, with a seven- piece band of musicians. Gibbons last toured Melbourne 15 years ago with proponents of trip hop, Portishead, appearing at Harvest Festival. There she was bathed in the golden afternoon rays of sunlight, but now she’s obscured by stage lights in alternating hues. Her musicians are backlit and positioned either side of the stage in groups of three and the keyboardist is in the centre behind Gibbons.
