Bob Dylan and Tom Petty toured the world together in 1986. The tour played Kooyong Stadium in Melbourne on 20, 21 and 22 February 1986.

The Australian show wasn’t without controversy. Petty’s girlfriend at the time was Stevie Nicks and came on tour with Tom. As she was travelling as a tourist, she did not have a work visa. At the Sydney show she went on stage to join in on ‘Like A Rolling Stone’ and Knocking On Heaven’s Door’.

That reached Australian law. Stevie was travelling on a holiday visa and technically worked. That meant she could have been deported and banned from ever returning to the country again. She got off with a warning, but Tom was so pissed off he vowed never to tour Australia again … and he never did.

This weekend Jeff Jenkins and his 5-piece band DYLANesque will play live and they may even do the Petty/Nicks hit ‘Stop Dragging My Heart Around’ in the show.

‘Having performed this show to standing ovations throughout regional Victoria we’re just back from debuting it to the good folk of South Australia at the Adelaide Fringe where we had a ball again,’ said creator and performer Jeff Jenkins, who is the voice of both Bob Dylan and Tom Petty in the show.

‘Our new show appeals to an even wider audience as it celebrates the music of three immensely talented artists, each with their own loyal following. The concert tour where these three giants shared a stage is still talked about today, 30+ years on. If you were there in ‘86, you should come and see our show – if you missed them in ‘86, you should DEFININETLY come and see our show!’

Doors Open 7.30pm, Showtime 8.40 (with intermission).

Leo Sayer Shares His Thoughts on The Passing of Sly Stone

There really is a riot going on right now, so what a poignant moment it seems to be to lose a hero I never met, yet a man I often imagined as my soul brother. I worked with many of his alumni (including the man who helped invent him, fellow San Fran disk jockey Tom Donahue), and to say they and he inspired me would be a useless understatement.
