Aerosmith Plan Farewell Tour

Steven Tyler has fuelled speculation Aerosmith’s next tour will be their last.

The band is currently on a hiatus while frontman Steven tackles a bid as a solo country music artist, but he is planning to regroup with the I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing hitmakers to hit the road again next year (17) – and it may well be a goodbye trek.

“I’m doing 30 (solo) shows from May until August,” the singer tells Rolling Stone. “And then in 2017 we go out with Aerosmith. We’re probably doing a farewell tour.”

Steven, 68, goes on to insist if they all agree to bow out now, he would be happy with Aerosmith’s legacy, but he would be just as satisfied if the five-piece decides to forge on with another album, too.

“Look, there’s two bands that still have the original members, us and the (Rolling) Stones,” he explains. “I’m grateful for that. Whether we do a farewell tour or go into the studio and do another record, I’m just excited about it.”

Steven’s comments emerge months after his bandmate, guitarist Brad Whitford, also raised the prospect of retiring Aerosmith sooner rather than later.

“We are actually talking about that – about actually putting together a sort of wind-down tour which we would call the Farewell Tour,” he said on the Eddie Trunk podcast in December (15). “I guess it’s just because of our age. You know, something’s gonna happen. It’s just inevitable that somebody’s not gonna be able to do it anymore. So it would be very nice to take a nice long bow and say thank you and… put it to bed kind of gracefully.”

Aerosmith last performed together in September (15). Whitford also revealed the band was due to hit the road in 2016, but Steven wanted to stay in the studio to complete work on his new solo material.
