Pink Becomes UNICEF Ambassador

Pink’s daughter Willow inspired her to join forces with UNICEF.

Pink announced she has been named the latest ambassador for the United Nations Children’s Fund during an appearance on Good Morning America on Monday (30Nov15).

During an interview with America’s People magazine about her reasons behind joining forces with the organisation, Pink said it was her daughter, four-year-old Willow with husband Carey Hart, who inspired her to get involved and start using her “big mouth” for good.

“The fire was lit, obviously, because I’m a mama,” Pink told People.

Pink’s first role as ambassador will see her act as the spokesperson for the organisation’s new initiative Kid Power. The campaign is aiming to inspire young people to become healthier by using an activity tracking bracelet and app.

Both on and off stage, Pink is an incredibly active woman, and is hoping to help motivate others to get on the move.

“Statistically, one in four kids in the U.S. are inactive. And I’m all about fitness and health and positivity. One in four kids, globally, are malnourished. So UNICEF has found a way, with Kid Power, to combat both problems at the same time,” Pink continued.

“You’re getting kids super motivated to move their feet, and you’re also creating, global citizens, where they care, and they’re able to help other kids around the world.”

Pink has already embarked on a trip abroad with UNICEF, having visited Haiti back in July (15). The time away, which involved her visiting a health centre for mothers and young children, made the Just Give Me a Reason singer realise just how inspirational children are.

“They’re so ready to fix their world,” she said. “They just keep going. Kids are so resilient. I sat with this little four or five-year-old. And she just held her hands on my face and sang to me. She’s living in a one-room shack with her entire family and hardly any food, and she’s taking the time to sit with me and sing with me. The kids give me the most hope.”
