One Electric Day’s John Farnham Southern Sons Connection

Duane McDonald’s One Electric Day has been one of the hot tickets leading into summer in Melbourne for years. Not surprising, the Werribee show for 24 November is already a sell-out.

One Electric Day is going national in 2019 kicking off in Launceston of 2 November 2019.

The 2019 line-up features John Farnham with James Reyne, Jon Stevens and Vanessa Amorosi but the one to watch is the reformed Southern Sons who haven’t played in over 20 years.

The Farnham/Southern Sons story also has a crossroads. After the break-up of Southern Sons, Jack Jones and Phil Buckle both worked with Farnham on the ‘Chain Reaction’ album. Phil c0-wrote John’s hit ‘Burn For You’, as well as three other songs on the album ‘I Can Do Anything’, ‘All Our Sons and Daughters’, ‘New Day’ and ‘Time and Money’. Jack was a guitarist on the album.

On 1993’s ‘Then Again…’ Phil co-wrote ‘When All Else Fails’, ‘What You Don’t Know’, ‘Treated This Way’, ‘The Reason Why’ and ‘So Long In Love’ and played guitar on every track off the album except ‘The Reason Why’.

The hits of Southern Sons are:

Heart In Danger (1990, no 5)

Always and Ever (no 16, 1990)

Hold Me In Your Arms (1991, no 9)

Lead Me To Water (1992, no 36)

You Were There (1993, no 6)
