Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark To Release The Punishment Of Luxury

The resurgence of OMD (Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark) continues with the September 1 release of their new album The Punishment of Luxury.

Apart for a decade, from 1996 to 2006, the current version of OMD has released two albums, History of Modern (2010 / #28 U.K.) and English Electric (2013 / #12 U.K.).

There was a question as to whether OMD would continue after the release of English Electric but touring brought them back together and they have been working on the new album, on and off, for the last few years.

Paul Humphrey’s said of the album “We’re still trying to maintain our connection with our roots, but we’ve tried to go a bit more, even more stripped-down than English Electric.”

Andy McCluskey said that the album was inspired by the paining of the same name by artist Giovanni Segantinin. “We’ve taken that idea and extrapolated it into sort of… a metaphor for modern life, really. First world problems. All of the shit we have to deal with is only a problem that’s created for you by some suggestion that came from a marketing man or a PR job that’s been done on you”

He continued “There’s a little bit more sort of crunchy industrial sound in a few things, a bit glitchy-er. But you know, the bottom line is that we have a sense of melody that we just can’t throw off.”

The album will be released on CD, CD/DVD, Vinyl LP, Yellow Vinyl LP, Cassette and digitally.

The track list:
The Punishment of Luxury
Isotype
Robot Man
What Have We Done
Precision & Decay
As We Open, So We Close
Art Eats Art
Kiss Kiss Kiss Bang Bang Bang
One More Time
La Mitrailleuse
Ghost Star
