Fans of Otis Redding are about to get a couple of major releases.

On October 7, Rhino will release Complete and Unbelievable: The Otis Redding Dictionary of Soul. Originally released in 1966, the album has been expanded with both mono and stereo versions of the set and bonus tracks.

Dictionary of Soul was Redding’s fifth and final studio album before his death. Side 1 of the original album was cover songs of such standards as Tennessee Waltz, Sweet Lorene and Try a Little Tenderness, the Beatles’ Day Tripper and Fa-Fa-Fa-Fa-Fa (Sad Song) written by Steve Cropper and Redding. Side two was all Redding originals except for a cover of Chuck Willis’ You’re Still My Baby.

The two-CD release of the album includes a mono version of the set along with five bonus tracks. Disc 2 is the album in stereo with three additional songs.

For the three-disc vinyl LP, there is one disc with the original album in mono and the other in stereo. A third 7″ single contains Try a Little Tenderness and I’m Sick Y’all.

Then, on October 21, Stax will release Live at the Whiskey A Go Go: The Complete Recordings.

In Person at the Whiskey a Go Go was released in October 1968 with ten tracks from a series of shows in April 1966 at the L.A. landmark.

Redding performed a total of seven shows from April 8 to April 10 and, for the first time, every song from every set is being released on the new set. Remixed and remastered from the original four-track tapes, the album not only recreates the original sets but also, for the first time, includes all of the between songs banter.
