Paul Kelly’s ‘Merri Soul Sessions’ has been withdrawn as a nomination for the Carlton Dry Independent Music Awards because the album is yet to be released.

‘The Merri Soul Sessions’ made the shortlist for Best Blues and Roots Album along with Dan Sultan ‘Blackbird’, John Butler Trio ‘Flesh & Blood’, Little Bastard ‘Little Bastard’ and Mia Dyson ‘Idyllwild’.

‘The Merri Soul Sessions’ is an independent Paul Kelly project featuring his songs re-recorded as soul songs with guest singers.

So far the first single ‘What You Want’ featuring Vika Bull and ‘Keep Coming Back For Me’ featuring Clairy Browne have been released as a 7 inch vinyl single.

Single two ‘I Don’t Know What I’d Do’ featuring Kira Piru and Paul singing ‘Thank You’ will be available at the end of September. The third single with guests Linda Bull on ‘Smells Like Rain’ and Dan Sultan on ‘Don’t Let A Good Thing Go’ is scheduled for November 30 then the 4th sing with Vika Bull doing ‘Sweet Guy’ and Vika and Linda performing ‘Down On The Jetty’ will be released on January 31, 2015.

‘The Merri Soul Sessions’ will be released in February, 2015 and therefore doesn’t qualify for an Independent Music Award nomination this year.

AIR have withdrawn the title from the Blues and Roots Award category. The Best Blues and Roots Award category will now have just the four other nominees for 2014.
