Paul McCartney’s The Lyrics Songlist Revealed And It Includes A Surprise

by Paul Cashmere on August 24, 2021

in News

On 2 November 2021, 154 of Paul McCartney’s songlyrics will be published in the book ‘The Lyrics’. 153 of the songs you will know. One, ‘Tell Me Who He Is’, is an unrecorded and unreleased Beatles song.

‘Tell Me Who He Is’ is carbon-dated to the early 1960s. McCartney says he recently discovered the lyrics when he was going through an old notebook doing research for this book.

Each of the 154 song lyrics includes a commentary by Paul McCartney. McCartney said, ‘More often than I can count, I’ve been asked if I would write an autobiography, but the time has never been right. The one thing I’ve always managed to do, whether at home or on the road, is to write new songs. I know that some people, when they get to a certain age, like to go to a diary to recall day-to-day events from the past, but I have no such notebooks. What I do have are my songs, hundreds of them, which I’ve learned serve much the same purpose. And these songs span my entire life’.

‘The Lyrics’ comes during a lot of activity for Beatles fans. George Harrison’s classic ‘All Things Must Pass’ has just been expanded and reissued for the 50th anniversary, Ringo Starr has a new E.P. and The Beatles ‘Get Back’ project is about to be revealed with the new Peter Jackson movie ‘Get Back’ heading to Disney+ in December and an announcement expected any day now about the expanded 5 disc ‘Let It Be/Get Back’ box set.

Paul McCartney ‘The Lyrics’ will be published through Penguin Random House Australia.
