Paul Simon Makes First Appearance Since Arrest

Paul Simon has made his first public appearance since his arrest last week.

Simon was honored on Wednesday night at the 2014 NYU Steinhardt Vision Award Gala where he was given an award for his humanitarian work and his accomplishments in music. The evening at New York’s Beacon Theatre raised $1.1 million for scholarships.

It was Simon’s first appearance since he and wife, Edie Brickell, were arrested for disorderly conduct back on April 26. The couple had a physical altercation, although not serious, and police came to their home after Simon called 911 but hung up. Brickell was not at the ceremony.

Simon took the stage for a 75-minute set that included a number of his best known songs, including a performance of Still Crazy After All These Years with students from the school. Other songs included Diamonds on the Souls of Her Shoes, Me and Julio Down by the School Yard, You Can Call Me Al, 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover, Late in the Evening, American Tune and Graceland.

The singer’s only other public appearance currently scheduled is on August 2 at the Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown, NY.
