Nick Mason of Pink Floyd has been awarded the Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) by Queen Elizabeth II for his services to music.

Mason is the only Pink Floyd member to have played on every Pink Floyd album since co-founding the band in 1965 with Syd Barrett, Roger Waters and Richard Wright.

The first Floyd album ‘The Piper at the Gates of Dawn’ was released on 4 August 1967. It featured Syd Barrett on lead vocals, Roger Waters on bass, Richard Wright on keyboards and Mason on drums.

Richard Wright left after ‘The Wall’ and missed ‘The Final Cut’ album but contributed as a session player to ‘A Momentary Lapse of Reason’ before returning for the final album ‘The Division Bell’.

Roger Waters left after ‘The Final Cut’ and wasn’t on the final two Floyd albums.

After the first album Barrett was still listed as a Pink Floyd band member but only played on three tracks. David Gilmour joined for that second record ‘A Saucerful of Secrets’ but didn’t play on two tracks. He became a fully fledged member for the third album ‘More’ and played on ever album up to final album ‘The Division Bell’.

(15th Floyd album ‘The Endless River’ was released in 2014. It was pieced together from left-over sessions from The Division Bell with newly added parts recorded in 2013 and 2014 by Gilmour and Mason. Richard Wright died in 2008).

The CBE was established by King George V in 1917. It is one title down from a Knighthood.

Nick Mason has been touring his current band Saucerful of Secrets and performing early (pre-Dark Side of the Moon) Pink Floyd from 1967-1972.

This is his setlist:
