Overwhelming demand for Powderfinger’s return has left only limited tickets for Monday’s general public onsale, with the band confirming additional dates are being lined up for the 2027 Australian run.
Powderfinger have confirmed that demand for their 2027 Australian tour has been so strong that only limited tickets remain for Monday’s general public onsale, and the band is already working on adding further shows.
In the week since the Brisbane band announced their return to the stage after 16 years, the response has been intense. Presales this week moved at a pace that left few tickets for the general public when sales open on Monday 19 October. All currently listed shows are expected to sell out.
Bernard Fanning spoke for the band, saying the reaction had taken them by surprise. “Ok. That was a pretty weird week. We are truly humbled and overwhelmed by the response to the shows we announced. Thank you so much to everyone that sat through the stress of trying to get tickets. We want you all to know that we understand that there is still a huge appetite for people to come and be a part of the tour so we are working on putting more shows together. We want everyone to have an opportunity to come but it will take a couple of weeks to string it all together. Please be patient. We hear you. Lots of love to you all. Choose Kindness.”
The current itinerary already includes multiple nights in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, along with dates in Cairns, Perth and Adelaide. The shows run from early September through to the start of November 2027 and are being staged under a large travelling big top at venues including Brisbane Showgrounds, Cazalys Stadium, Wellington Square, The Domain, Ellis Park and Melbourne Park Oval. Further dates are being confirmed and will be announced once finalised.
The tour is partnering with Mission Australia. The organisation works with people experiencing homelessness, family violence, mental health challenges and financial hardship. Powderfinger have said the cause is close to them and that the tour will raise both funds and awareness. More details on how fans can contribute will be released later.
An exclusive all-band interview about the tour announcement appears in the current edition of The Big Issue, available from street vendors or online.
The scale of interest underlines how deeply Powderfinger’s catalogue remains embedded in Australian life. Songs that soundtracked the late 1990s and 2000s still carry weight for a wide audience, and the decision to return under a single large production rather than a conventional arena run has clearly connected. Fans who missed out in the first wave of presales now have a clear signal that more opportunities are coming, even if those extra shows will take a couple of weeks to lock in.
For now the focus remains on Monday’s onsale and the work underway to expand the run. Powderfinger have made it clear they want as many people as possible to be part of the 2027 shows. Patience is the current request while the next round of dates is sorted.
