Quiet Riot Tap American Idol For New Lead Singer

by Roger Wink, VVN Music on March 6, 2017

in News

American Idol contestant James Durbin is the new lead singer of Quiet Riot.

If it works for Queen, why can’t it also work for Quiet Riot.

Queen has had American Idol finalist Adam Lambert as their lead singer the last few years and now another Idol alumni, James Durbin, is about to lead Quiet Riot.

Durbin will be the seventh lead singer for the group after the late Kevin DuBrow, Paul Shortino (1987 to 1989), Mark Huff (2010 to 2012), Scott Vokoun (2012 to 2013), Jizzy Pearl (2013 to 2016) and Seann “Tarsha” Nichols (October 2016 to March 2017).

Quiet Riot’s Alex Grossi wrote on Facebook:

With 2017 being the 10 year anniversary of Kevin DuBrow leaving us….. I just have 4 words with regards to where we finally ended up….. IT’S ABOUT FUCKING TIME ! – Welcome American Idol’s James Durbin!!!…..Let’s do this shit! #FINALLY, #TRUEROCKSTAR, #NOMOREKAROAKE

Durbin wrote:

Sammy Hagar’s New Live Album Features Rai Thistlethwayte of Thirsty Merc

Sammy Hagar has always had a reputation for surrounding himself with powerhouse players, but his upcoming live album, Sammy Hagar & The Best Of All Worlds Band – The Residency (out October 10, 2025 via Big Machine Rock), brings a distinctly Australian twist. On keyboards, vocals and guitar is Rai Thistlethwayte, best known at home for fronting Thirsty Merc and more recently as a member of The Fabulous Caprettos. For Australian fans, the inclusion of Thistlethwayte in Hagar’s latest chapter is a striking reminder of how far the Sydney-born musician’s career has travelled.
