Radiohead Say They Will Avoid Hall of Fame In Selected

Radiohead have been nominated for possible induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility, but they aren’t doing much to gain the favor of the voters.

The band already were not faring well in the fan vote, recently sitting at number 11 on the list; however, that doesn’t mean they aren’t getting support from all the other voters.

Even when the nominations were originally announced, they said that they thought the Dr. Dre should have been nominated instead of the band, adding that celebrating themselves is a very American thing. “It’s in our DNA to be a little ambivalent with award ceremonies. We haven’t had great experiences. I would never want to disrespect anything because obviously some amazing artists have been nominated. But if I’m honest I don’t understand it. It’s just kind of a British person going, ‘Okay, thanks, what does this mean?’”

Now, a representative for the band has told the site Pitchfork that, even if elected, they won’t be attending the induction. Their stated reason was that they were busy that day (April 14, 2018) with a show already planned for Buenos Aires.

Of course, they could still get elected and just not attend. There are no rules that an artist has to be at the ceremony to be inducted as is the case at the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame. Carrie Underwood’s induction was recently rescinded after she stated she couldn’t make the ceremony after breaking bones falling down a set of stairs.
