Randy Newman was one of those songwriters singers who couldn’t write would gravitate to in the late 60s and early 70s.

Randy didn’t have a hit song in his own name until ‘Short People’ in 1977.

Before he was a name for himself Gene Pitney, Alan Price and Three Dog Night had hits covering Randy Newman songs.

Here are six Randy Newman songs that were hits for other people:

Nobody Needs Your Love (Gene Pitney)

Just One Smile (Gene Pitney)

Simon Smith and His Amazing Dancing Bear (Alan Price Set)

Mama Told Me Not To Come (Three Dog Night)

Guilty (Joe Cocker)

After his success with ‘Short People’ Joe Cocker had a big hit with another Randy Newman song. Bette Midler sang one in Beaches.

I Think It’s Gonna Rain Today (Bette Midler)

You Can Leave Your Hat On (Joe Cocker)

Randy Newman will perform at Melbourne Zoo for Zoo Twilights in 2020. The full 2020 Zoo Twilights line-up will be announced on 16 October 2019.
