Sophie B. Hawkins Gives Birth At 50 From 20 Year Old Embryo

Sophie B. Hawkins has given birth to a baby girl.

Sophie used an embryo she had frozen in 1995 for the pregnancy. She also has a son Dashiell, born in 2008. “Dashiell and I are ecstatic to finally be with our beautiful girl. Our family is now complete,” she told U Weekly.

The singer, 50, welcomed her daughter Esther Ballantine on Tuesday at New York Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell Campus in New York. She also has a son, Dashiell, who is 6.

Coincidentally, Hawkins was born at the same hospital in 1964, a fact that she Tweeted as she was being taken in for delivery.

Hawkins released her debut album, Tongues and Tails, in 1992 which included the top ten hit Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover (1992 / #5). She followed two years later with Whaler which featured As I Lay Me Down (1995 / #6). Overall, Hawkins has released five studio albums with the last being 2012’s The Crossing.
