Seattle’s iconic Sub Pop Records has opened a record store at Seattle airport.

The Sub Pop Airport Store features the classic Sub Pop catalogue and a gift shop in collaboration with designers, artists and companies based in America’s north-west state.

First day sales at the store included Nirvana ‘Bleach’ and an album by Father John Misty.

Sub Pop Records was founded in 1986 by Jonathan Poneman and Bruce Pavitt. The label earned its reputation when it signed then unknown Seattle acts Soundgarden, Mudhoney and Nirvana. In recent years the label was behind Foals, Fleet Fozxes and The Postal Service.

The label is now 49% owned by Warner Music.

Poneman and Pavitt were recent led honored with a plaque on the Seattle’s Nordstrom Walk of Fame. Seattle’s Walk of Fame also honours the city’s most famous musical son Jimi Hendrix.
