Temple of the Dog Play First Reunion Show In Philadelphia

by Paul Cashmere on November 5, 2016

in News

Temple of the Dog has reformed to mark the 25th anniversary of their sole album of 1991.

Temple of the Dog is essentially Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell fronting Pearl Jam, Mike McCready, Stone Gossard, Jeff Ament and Matt Cameron.

In 1991 Temple of the Dog formed to honour the late Andrew Wood, lead singer of Malfunkshun and Mother Love Bone. Gossard and Ament were members of Mother Love Bone before they joined Pearl Jam. Wood died from a heroin overdose in March 1990.

For the first of the reunion shows at the Tower Theatre in Philadelphia, Temple of the Dog performed nine tracks from their 1991 albums, five from the 1990 Mother Love Bone ‘Apple’ album plus covers of classic rock songs by Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Nilsson, Free, The Cure and Syd Barrett.

An anticipated appearance from Eddie Vedder who guested on the original album performing backing vocals on three songs and lead on ‘Hunger Strike’, did not happen.

Temple of the Dog opened with ‘Say Hello 2 Heaven’, the first track on the album and they ended with ‘All Night Thing’, the last track on the album.
