The Kongos Name Rocks Again After 43 Years

South Africa’s Kongos is a band to watch in Australia but old news already in the USA.

Kongos, the four sons of 70s South African rock star John Kongos, are gathering airplay now in Australia with ‘Come With Me Now’ but the song was a hit in the USA and Canada in 2013.

‘Come With Me Now’ reached no 1 on the US Alternative Chart and no 2 on the US Rock chart. It sold over 1 million downloads in America and 120,000 in Canada.

Kongos also had a US rock hit with ‘I’m Only Joking’ in 2013 and have since released three more songs ‘I Want To Know’, ‘Escape’ and ‘Sex On The Radio’.

‘Come With Me Now’ is from the band’s 2012 South Africans debut album ‘Lunatic’.

Kongos is Dylan, Daniel, Jesse and Johnny Kongos. The became a band in 2007 after growing up between London and South Africa. Since 1996 they have lived in Phoenix, Arizona.

Their father John Kongos has a Top 10 single in 1971 with ‘He’s Gonna Step On You Again’. The song was later remade as ‘Step On’ by Happy Mondays.

In 1987, three Australian acts. The Party Boys, The Chantoozies and Exploding White Mice, released versions of the song. The Party Boys version was a number one hit in Australia. The Party Boys were a revolving door supergroup. Their version of ‘He’s Gonna Step On You Again’, featured John Swan (Swanee) on vocals, Paul Christie (Mondo Rock) on drums, Alan Lancaster (Status Quo) and bass, John Brewster (The Angels) on guitar and Kevin Borich (The La De Das) on guitar.

Kongos will tour Australia for Chugg Entertainment.
