Tim Farriss and Kirk Pengilly of INXS Join Triple M

INXS members Tim Farriss and Kirk Pengilly will host their one-hour show on Triple M’s new regional network for a week from this Thursday.

Many regional radio stations across Australia have exterminated their heritage call signs over this coming holiday break and rebrand as Triple M. The strategy makes it easier to sell advertising and network Sydney and Melbourne programming into country Australia.

While local public sentiment for the move has been mostly negative, the Triple M network is counting on star power to ease the pain of the name change. The changes, announced in September, brings an end to regional radio call signs after decades of local broadcasting.

The Triple M name has replaced stations including Albury The River, Mt Gambier 5SE AM, Orange 2GZ, Katanning RadioWest and Cairns Sea FM.

With the re-brand, there are now 29 regional markets using the name Triple M.

Triple M’s regional network will host the Tim & Kirk shows from 9am – 10am from 15-23 December.
