Musician Trent Reznor and his songwriting partner Atticus Ross are to compose the score for Mark Wahlberg’s movie Patriots Day.

Trent Reznor and Ross, who have worked together on movies such as The Social Network and Gone Girl, will re-team for Wahlberg’s upcoming movie about the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings.

Director Peter Berg announced the news on Instagram by sharing a picture of the duo and writing, “I couldn’t be more honored than to be working with these two straight up genius artists. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Bringing their deep soul and fury to @patriotsdayfilm @treznor.”

The duo became best known for their collaborations with director David Fincher. They won an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for Best Original Score in 2011 for their work on Fincher’s The Social Network and a 2013 Grammy Award for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Their third Fincher collaboration was on Gone Girl, an adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s bestselling novel.

They have also worked on scores separately – Reznor composed the theme for video game Call of Duty: Black Ops II and a number of short films, while Ross boasts composer credits for movies Triple 9, The Book of Eli and TV show Outcast.

Patriots Day will chronicle the events surrounding the Boston Marathon Bombing and star Mark Wahlberg, who will play a police sergeant. He is joined by John Goodman, Kevin Bacon, J.K. Simmons and Michelle Monaghan, while Alex Wolff and newcomer Themo Melikidze are playing brothers Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who masterminded a terrorist attack which killed three people and left more than 260 injured. Tamerlan died in hospital after a gunfight with the police, and brother Dzhokhar was captured and subsequently found guilty of 30 charges related to the attack. He was sentenced to death in May 2015.

In April, Mark was spotted filming scenes dressed a police officer at the finish of the 2016 Boston Marathon, near where the bombs went off three years before.
