Weezer Announce The Gathering Australia And New Zealand Tour For 2027

by Paul Cashmere on October 28, 2026

in Live,News

Weezer will return to Australia and New Zealand in February and March 2027 for The Gathering Tour, joined by Third Eye Blind and Fountains Of Wayne. The six-show run brings together three bands whose catalogues helped define alternative rock and power-pop across the 1990s and 2000s.

Weezer will tour Australia and New Zealand in February and March 2027, with Third Eye Blind and Fountains Of Wayne joining the American rock band for The Gathering Tour. The six-date itinerary takes the three acts through five Australian cities before concluding in Auckland, where both support acts are scheduled to make their New Zealand live debuts.

For Weezer, the dates follow their Australian appearances at the 2025 Good Things Festival and extend their touring relationship with audiences across the region. Their previous New Zealand visit was in 2018, according to the supplied tour information.

The tour is being promoted around Weezer’s reported 20th studio album, Weezer (Gold Album), described in the announcement as a continuation of the band’s colour-coded album tradition. The release details should be confirmed against the official album announcement before publication.

That colour-coded history began with Weezer, commonly known as the Blue Album, in 1994. The band subsequently used the Green, Red, White, Teal and Black designations across different releases, turning the colour references into a recurring feature of its identity.

Formed in Los Angeles in 1992, Weezer established its audience with a combination of distorted guitars, melodic choruses and offbeat songwriting. The Blue Album produced enduring songs including “Undone – The Sweater Song”, “Buddy Holly” and “Say It Ain’t So”, establishing the group as one of the defining American alternative-rock acts of the decade.

The 1996 follow-up, Pinkerton, initially performed below expectations commercially but later developed a substantial following and critical standing. Weezer returned to broader commercial success with 2001’s Green Album, which included “Hash Pipe” and “Island In The Sun”.

The band’s catalogue has continued to move between power-pop, heavier guitar rock, orchestral arrangements and experimental projects. Releases including OK Human, Van Weezer and the four-part SZNZ series demonstrated the group’s willingness to work across different musical approaches while retaining its recognisable melodic sensibility.

The core line-up of Rivers Cuomo, Patrick Wilson, Brian Bell and Scott Shriner has remained in place since 2001. Weezer’s touring history has also included major festival appearances, arena shows and co-headlining runs with other established rock acts.

Third Eye Blind bring another substantial collection of late-1990s alternative-rock hits to the tour. Formed in San Francisco in 1993, the band broke through internationally with its 1997 self-titled debut album, which featured “Semi-Charmed Life”, “Jumper” and “How’s It Going To Be”.

The group has continued recording and touring across successive decades, with Our Bande Apart released in 2021. The Australian dates are described in the supplied announcement as Third Eye Blind’s first shows in the country since 2011, while the Auckland performance will be the band’s first in New Zealand.

Fountains Of Wayne complete the line-up with a catalogue built around sharply observed lyrics, compact pop songwriting and guitar-driven melodies. Formed in New York in 1995, the group became internationally recognised through “Stacy’s Mom”, the 2003 single from Welcome Interstate Managers.

The band entered an extended period away from the stage following the death of co-founder Adam Schlesinger in 2020. The surviving members returned to performing in 2025, making the announced 2027 itinerary a significant opportunity for Australian audiences to see the group again. The tour information also identifies the shows as Fountains Of Wayne’s first Australian performances since 1999.

Together, the three acts offer a programme spanning different strands of American alternative rock: Weezer’s melodic guitar anthems, Third Eye Blind’s radio-era hits and Fountains Of Wayne’s power-pop songwriting.

The itinerary covers Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane before the Auckland finale. Ticketing arrangements, including the on-sale date and authorised ticketing links, should be confirmed through the official promoter announcement.
