Cosmic Psychos Doco To Crowdsource Funding

Cosmic Psychos. Pub rock doesn’t get much more iconic than them. For thirty years the band have been touring relentlessly with thirteen albums under their belt and some fans in high places.

The doco features interviews with Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam), Buzz “King Buzzo” Osbourne (The Melvins), Mudhoney, Wally Meanie (The Meanies), Butch Vig (Garbage) and many more.

The film is being produced and directed by Matt Weston, who when he’s not playing bass in The Nation Blue, earns a crust from making music videos and docos.

“To be honest, they approached me in the early days and the first thing that came to my mind is ‘the last thing the world needs is another doco on a band’.” Weston told Noise11.com. “Then I said a week later I said I’d have a chat. I hadn’t met Ross at that point and I met him at the AIR awards and I think I spent about four hours listening to stories with my jaw dragging along the ground going ‘I have to do this’.

“Everything they’ve done…” he says before unintentionally pausing for effect. “Nothing about the way they’ve done it is normal. Every anecdote and story is hilarious. [The doco is] music based, but as far as a story goes it’s just got everything. Ups and downs, dramas and battles. The story’s got it all.”

But films don’t just get made, you see. This is where you, the Psychos fan comes in. So far Matt has been footing the bill himself, which is fine, but sooner or later he’s going to have to cough up some cashola.

“I’ve paid for everything myself so far,” he explains. “This is basically a call to help with the final things that I can’t… there are certain things were I need to bring people in for final sound mixes and colour grading and a bit more production.”

I don’t care if your mate has just signed up to Dry July, this is a more noble cause. Donate here.

Garbage Debut Album ‘Garbage’ Turns 30

When Garbage released their self-titled debut album in August 1995, the alternative rock landscape was already shifting. Grunge was waning, Britpop was peaking in the UK, and electronic music was beginning to infiltrate rock’s DNA. Into this transitional moment stepped Garbage, a genre-blurring project that fused rock guitars, trip-hop beats, industrial noise, and pop hooks into something sleek yet menacing.
