Gotye Reactivates The Basics

Gotye’s former band The Basics are getting back together although in a sense that is not 100% technically correct. The Basics never really broke up. Wally just got kind of famous as a solo artist.

The Basics

Gotye (aka Wally De Backer and Wally Basic) is the drummer for the three-piece cult Melbourne band The Basics but a Grammy and a number one US hit overshadowed the work in The Basics.

The Basics have recorded four albums. A compilation of those works was recently released as ‘Ingredients’ (2012) and ‘Leftovers’ (2013).

One of their tracks ‘Have Love Will Travel’ even ended up in an episode of David Duchovny’s ‘Californication’ TV show.

“It’s been a great challenge nutting out how to bring a large band, visuals and studio compositions together for the Gotye live shows over the last two years,” said Wally Basic, having recently concluded his tour commitments. “But right now I’m looking forward to getting sweaty behind the drums and playing rock ‘n’ roll in these fab clubs with my brothers Kris and Tim.”

The Basics Ingredients and Leftovers tour dates are:

September 12, Brisbane, Spiegeltent
September 21, Hobart, Republic Bar
September 26, Melbourne, Castlemaine, Theatre Royal
September 27 and 28, Melbourne, Northcote Social Club
October 3, Canberra, Transit Bar
October 4, Sydney, Oxford Art Fatcory
October 6, Coloundra Music Festival
