Robbie Williams Brings Take That Along For Brit Icon Award

Robbie Williams was joined by his former Take That bandmates as he picked up the prestigious Brits Icon Award in London on Monday night.

Robbie Williams was in the middle of a fan-only gig at London’s Troxy venue, where he celebrated the big win, when his old mates joined him onstage for a rendition of their hit Back For Good.

Gary Barlow and Mark Owen then returned to the stage to present Robbie with his latest trophy.

Williams becomes only the third recipient of the Icon Award, which was previously given to Sir Elton John and David Bowie. It is presented to artists whose writing, recording and performances “have set them apart as having made a lasting impact on British culture, recognising the very highest level of achievement in music.”

“Elton, David and then this chav (ill-styled working class guy) from Stoke-on-Trent,” he joked upon receiving the award. “I’m glad it’s me, I’m glad it’s not going somewhere else. The other people were absolute legends and icons. I kind of have mixed feelings about receiving it. My mum is really buoyed about it, she’s got her chest puffed out.”

The Troxy gig and the unexpected reunion came just hours after Robbie announced a massive 29-show European tour with pop duo Erasure.

The two acts will trek through 18 countries, beginning with a show in Manchester, England, next summer on The Heavy Entertainment Tour.

Williams, who quit Take That in 1995, also revealed he would like to perform at the Glastonbury festival in England in June, and he has left a few dates open just in case he gets the call to hit the main stage at the event.

“If they ask me I would do it but I don’t think it’s going to be happening next year,” he said at a press conference on Monday. “I would love to do Glastonbury again. I would like my moment on the Pyramid Stage in front of a record-breaking amount of people please.”

Robbie last performed at Glastonbury in 1998.
