Stone Temple Pilots Mark First Anniversary Of Scott Weiland Death

It was one year ago today that Scott Weiland, leader of the Stone Temple Pilots, Velvet Revolver and The Wildabouts, died on his tour bus prior to a show from what was determined to be a mix of cocaine, ethanol and MDA along with a number of underlying conditions.

Weiland was a founding member of the Stone Temple Pilots, originally Mighty Joe Young, in 1985 and was with the band until their breakup in 2002. He returned in 2007 but was “terminated” in 2013. Over the years, there was often friction between Scott and the current members, but it seems they now look back fondly at the former frontman.

On Saturday, the band posted a statement on the first anniversary of Weiland’s death:

Here we are. A year has passed since you’ve been gone.

We often think of you and are reminded of you daily with many memories.

Then there is the music the four of us carved out allowing us to listen and feel how brilliant you are.

There was a time when we looked up to one another.

Each of us wanting one another’s approval.

The songs we wrote had to have complete impact on us in order for them to shine.

When it did… it was unearthly. Perhaps you are in a place now to better describe it.

We miss you Scott.

Linkin Park vocalist Chester Bennington sang with STP from 2013 to 2015 when he left to concentrate on his original band. Stone Temple Pilots have spent most of 2016 looking for a new singer with a recent rumor saying that John Borja from the Philippines was a leading candidate.
