Alec Benjamin Finds Paul Simon and Eminem Very Similar

Alec Benjamin, the 24-year old US singer/songwriter, is a huge fan of both Paul Simon and Eminem and finds them very similar in a lot of ways.

“I feel like people are always saying there is a big gap between Eminem and Paul Simon but to me they are similar in a lot of ways,” he tells Noise11.com. “There is the subject matter they address in their music. I like them 50/50. I don’t know if its 50/50 on the day. They both have a big influence on me”.

Benjamin has covered Simon’s ‘The Boy In The Bubble’ and Eminem has also sampled Simon in ’50 Ways’. “Paul Simon has a song called ‘The Boy In The Bubble’ and Eminem samples him in in one of his songs,” Alec says. “It’s like a Paul Simon and Eminem collaboration to me. Paul Simon uses beats that are very similar to rap. A lot of beats on Paul Simon songs, like ’50 Ways To Leave Your Lover’, the lyrics he uses, “All inside your head she said to me, the answer is easy if you take it logically, I’d like to help you in your struggle to be free”. It’s like a rap”.

Alec also likes Chris Martin. “I like Coldplay too,” he says. “I forget to talk about that. I love Chris Martin. He is one of my biggest influences”.

Alec Benjamin has just released the video for ‘If We Have Each Other’.
