Supporters of the late Ted Mulry have started a petition to have the Australian rock star inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame.

Mulry died on 1 September, 2001 from cancer. He was 54.

Ted Mulry was initially a solo singer whose first hit song ‘Julia’ first cracked the Top 40 in 1970. The follow-up ‘Falling In Love Again’ was a Top 10 hit.

In 1975, Ted formed the Ted Mulry Gang and went to number one with ‘Jump In My Car’. His next song ‘’The Darktown Strutters Ball’ was a no. 3 hit the ‘Crazy’ ‘Steppin’ Out’ and ‘Jamaica Rum’ continued his chart run.

After leaving Alberts and moving to Mushroom more hits followed with ‘My Little Girl’, ‘Sha La La La Lee’, ‘Lazy Eyes’ and ‘Heart of Stone’.

Ted also wrote the Sherbet hit ‘You’re All Woman’ and David Hasselhoff recently covered ‘Jump In My Car’.

The petition to ARIA began as a promise to Ted’s 91-year old mother Alice. 767 Ted Mulry fans have signed the petition that will be presented to ARIA’s Dan Rosen when it reaches 1000.

The ARIA Hall of Fame has inducted Skyhooks, Peter Allen, INXS, Olivia Newton-John, Daddy Cool, Hoodoo Gurus, Marcia Hines, Brian Cadd, Little Patti, Johnny Young, Divinyls, Kylie Minogue, The Wiggles, The Saints, Midnight Oil, Bee Gees, The Seekers, Little River Band, Icehouse, Rose Tattoo, Lobby Loyde, Nick Cave and The Church. The most recent inductee was Yothu Yindi in 2012.

Why Streaming Charts Cannot Be Compared To The Physical Sales Era

by Paul Cashmere The modern music charts used by ARIA, Billboard and the UK's Official Charts Company now measure an entirely different form of consumer behaviour than the charts of the vinyl, cassette and CD eras. While chart headlines frequently compare contemporary streaming milestones with historical sales achievements, industry analysts increasingly acknowledge that the two systems are built on fundamentally incompatible metrics.
