Australia To Compete In Eurovision 2015

Australia has been invited to compete in Eurovision 2015.

Australia was given a performance place in 2014 with Jessica Mauboy heading to Denmark for last years event. For 2015, Australia has been invited as a one-off ‘Wildcard” entry for this year only.

Eurovision is broadcast in Australia on SBS and since 2009 SBS has used its own host Julia Zemiro to front the local broadcast.

SBS has been broadcasting Eurovision for over 30 years and we have seen how Australians’ love of the song contest has grown during those years,” said SBS Managing Director Michael Ebeid.

“Jessica Mauboy’s performance last year was a truly momentous occasion and achievement. This year we are thrilled to be advancing our involvement by sending an Australian artist to compete for the first time, and presenting Australia with our first opportunity to vote in the contest.”

The one-off Australian presence at Eurovision 2015 is to mark the 60th anniversary of the event.

The Eurovision 2015 final will he held in Vienna, Austria on May 23, 2015. The Australian contestant is yet to be decided.
