Bob Marley Legend Enters SoundScan Era Top 10 Of All-Time

The Original Wailers will return to Australia in March 2027 for the One Love Tour, bringing one of reggae's most enduring catalogues back to local stages. Led by guitarist Al Anderson, the sole surviving member of the classic mid-1970s Bob Marley & The Wailers lineup, the seven-date run will take in Perth, Adelaide, Wollongong, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and the Gold Coast. With Anderson now carrying the responsibility of preserving the music he helped create alongside Bob Marley, the tour is being positioned as a celebration of songs that remain among the most influential works in popular music.

Bob Marley has been named the most frequently referenced historical figure in song lyrics, according to a new study examining how musicians draw inspiration from history. The reggae icon sits comfortably at number one with 927 separate lyric mentions, placing him well ahead of philosophers, criminals, political leaders and fellow musicians whose names have also been woven into popular music over decades.

Leslie Kong's name rarely appears on the marquee, but his fingerprints are all over the songs that made Jamaica's music a global language. A Chinese-Jamaican businessman who began life running an ice-cream parlour, a restaurant and a record shop on Orange Street in Kingston, Kong turned a chance audition outside his shop into Beverley's Records and effectively launched modern reggae. His label and production work took ska and rocksteady, polished them, and helped shape early reggae into an exportable sound that found listeners from London to New York.
