Cold Chisel Release Historic Manly Vale Concert

Cold Chisel has unearthed their 7 June 1980 Manly Vale concert as a live album as the third instalment of their Live Tapes series.

The show took place in the same week the band released the ‘East’ album, the album that would become their most respected piece of work. ‘East’ contained nine of the songs played at the show including two that would become their biggest hits ‘Choir Girl’ and ‘Cheap Wine’.

1980 was also a relentless time for live music. Bands then rarely had a night off.

“In 1980, we were playing 8 days a week. We were fighting fit and hungry, playing every show like it was our last – and often it almost was,” says Jimmy Barnes. “This show at the Manly Vale Hotel was recorded the week ‘East’ came out. We were still playing pubs, with the audience spilling onto the stage and the band spilling into the audience. It was fierce and fiery and lots of fun. Everyone in the band was writing songs and playing at the top of their game. It’s all here in the this raw and real recording.”
