Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has confirmed that there will be a State Funeral for Melbourne icon Sisto Malaspina who was murdered by terrorist Hassan Kalif Shire Ali on Friday afternoon.

Premier Andrews tweeted, “Sisto Malaspina was a Victorian icon, known and loved by us all. I spoke to his family again this morning, and they have accepted my offer of a State Funeral next week, with more details to come. Until then, our love and thoughts remain with Sisto’s family”.

When news of Sisto’s murder broke there was an immediate outpouring from the Melbourne community, celebrities, sports stars and politicians.

Calls have also been made to have Crossley Street, the street down the side of Pellegrini’s restaurant, renamed Sisto Street. Daniel Andrews backs the plans.

Details for the State Funeral will be announced soon for later this week.
