David Bowie’s new album, The Next Day, sold 56,000 copies in its first day of release in the U.K., the best sales for any album so far this year.

It also set the album on a course to be Bowie’s ninth number 1 LP in the U.K. and his first since 1993’s Black Tie White Noise.

Official Charts Company managing director Martin Talbot said “Bowie is officially back! The Next Day is a true gift for all Bowie aficionados. It already sounds like a classic Bowie album – and its popularity this week is already showing that the great British public have taken it to their hearts.”

In second is Bon Jovi’s What About Now; however, it is only selling at about one-third the pace of the Bowie album.

An indication as to the sales in the U.S. should be available on Thursday or Friday of this week.

James Taylor Farewells Australia With Final Tour (Melbourne Review)

I could go to a James Taylor show just for the stories. The man is a part of music history and is still around to tell the tales of how it all began. Like, for instance, being the first artist signed to Apple Records. James “auditioned” for Apple with his song ‘Something In The Way She Moves’. "Paul went away and started the label and George went away and wrote the song”, he said.
