Elvis Presley Planes To Remain At Graceland

Elvis Presley’s two airplanes, the “Lisa Marie” and the “Hound Dog II”, have greeted tourists at the entrance of Graceland for over three decades, but they weren’t owned by the estate.

K.G. Coker bought them shortly after Elvis’ death and, last year, decided it was time to make some money from his pieces of history. He initially placed an ad in an aviation publication looking for “serious offers” but then turned to Julien’s Auctions to handle the sale.

The announcements brought out Elvis fans in droves along with Priscilla Presley who all wanted to keep the planes where they were. The sale never happened but, last Tuesday, OKC Partnership announced they would be moving the planes to a new location a short way from Graceland.

It now appears that there was quite a bit of behind the scenes negotiating going on as it has been announced that Graceland now owns the planes and they will be staying where they are. Lisa Marie Presley took to Twitter to announce the news:

“Exciting news:I wanted 2 b the first to tell U: The Planes will remain at Graceland 4 ever! We own them and have fun plans 4 them as well :)”.

Graceland then made it official with a press release:

Graceland is pleased that an agreement has been reached for Elvis’ two airplanes, the Lisa Marie and Hound Dog II to remain at Elvis Presley’s Graceland in Memphis permanently. The planes have been available for tours in the Graceland visitors’ center since 1984.
