Happy 70th Birthday Brian Cadd

It has been a historic week for Australian singer songwriter Brian Cadd. After 50s years in the business the music legend is about to turn 70.

Brian’s partner Amanda Pelman put on a Hollywood-style birthday party for Brian at St Kilda’s Memo Music Hall in Melbourne last night. Another Australian rock hero Glenn Shorrock welcomed 200 of Brian’s friends and shared some bawdy tales. (I switched off when Glenn described carrying a naked Brian out of a shower but now we have some idea how Glenn’s ‘Help Is On Its Way’ may have been inspired).

The room was full of the famous faces of music legends including Deborah Conway, Ross Wilson, Ian ‘Molly’ Meldrum and Michael Chugg. For the much loved Brian, it was an excellent turn-out.

There was even a faux-Donald Trump. “I knew my wife Amanda was up to something,” Brian said. “Ten years ago she dressed Molly Meldrum up as Marilyn Monroe to wish Michael Chugg a happy 60th, so I figured I would be in for something shocking. I did not expect the so-called president elect!”

The party to end all parties featured the band to end all bands with Brian joining his old Bootleg Family Band and his former Axiom partner Shorrock for a reminder of the 50 years of classics he has created from ‘Ginger Man’ through ‘Let Go’, ‘Arkansas Grass’ and ‘A Little Ray Of Sunshine’.

The party, with Brian’s Bootleg Family Band reunited, coincided the release of their first recording in 43 years, the Bulletproof album.

Happy 70th Brian Cadd.
