British alternative-rock group The Happy Mondays are going to follow in the footsteps of so many other groups as of the last few years and will reform to tour in 2012.

According to The Sun, Shaun Ryder is busily getting all the original group members together and he’s making sure that it all gets documented as he has a film crew shooting the whole thing.

A source told the paper, “After the success of The Stone Roses reunion, there’s a real clamour to get the group back on the road and document it properly. Shaun and his brother Paul have a notoriously patchy relationship but they’re willing to sort things out for the sake of the band.

“The Mondays have had offers from film companies, including Film4 and Sky, who want to follow them for the reunion. There will be gigs next summer and a re-release of their classic album Pills ‘n’ Thrills And Bellyaches. A DVD will also be released of the comeback shows and the documentary.”

The band originally formed in 1980 with brothers Shaun (vocals) and Paul Ryder (bass) along with Mark Day (lead guitar), Paul Davis (keyboards) and Gary Whelan (drums). They reached the height of their popularity in 1990 with the album Pills ‘n’ Thrills and Bellyaches which peaked at number 8 in the U.K. and 89 in the U.S. Their biggest hits were Step On (1990/#5 U.K./#9 U.S. Modern Rock), Kinky Afro (1990/#5 U.K./#1 U.S. Modern Rock) and Stinkin’ Thinkin’ (1992/#31 U.K./#21 U.S. Modern Rock/#1 U.S. Dance).
