Hoodoo Gurus Dave Faulkner has announced the Gurus music festival is still on everywhere except for Adelaide.

In a statement he said:

I hate being the bearer of bad news but Feel Presents yesterday made the disappointing decision to cancel the Adelaide show. They have issued this press release with all the details:

DIG IT UP! ADELAIDE SCUPPERED!

A long hot summer packed full of various festive musical activities – A Day On the Green, Nick Cave, Neil Young, Dinosaur Jr, Bruce Springsteen, Adelaide Festival, Adelaide Fringe Festival et al – has resulted in a less than desired outcome for the Adelaide leg of Dig it Up 2013, so it is with great regret promoters Feel Presents have decided to pull the pin / count their losses / pull up stumps for the scheduled show @ HQ on April 26th, and instead offer fans of the Hoodoo Gurus and Dig It Up! one of two options.

1. A full refund at the point of purchase.

2. Very generously offer the full Melbourne Dig it Up! experience – that’s some 18+ acts across three stages in central Melbourne – for the price of the Adelaide ticket. That’s half the regular Melbourne ticket price. How’s that for value?

Dig it Up! Melbourne is held on the public holiday of April 25th at The Palace Theatre. Other acts include: Blue Oyster Cult, Buzzcocks, The Stems, The Moodists and of course the full proposed Adelaide line-up of Flamin’ Groovies, Peter Case Band and Hoodoo Gurus playing Mars Needs Guitars (plus other smash hits). Full Melbourne Dig it Up! details available here: http://digitup.net.au/

NB: This offer is only valid to those who are currently holding an Adelaide Dig it Up! ticket.

Alternatively Dig it Up! and Hoodoo Gurus will make their way back to Adelaide when time allows.

Sadly, last year the Adelaide Dig It Up! show was probably my favourite show of the tour: we played really well and the concert overall had a great atmosphere. It was for that reason that we were keen to return again with this tour even though our poor promoter didn’t actually make a cracker out of last year’s show (I think he cleared $100)! He was also having panic attacks leading up to the gig because of the slow pace of sales – this apparently is a well-known thing with Adelaide punters (and one that is much-loathed by promoters) with the audiences often leaving it until the last minute to purchase tickets. This year was the same but, on this occasion, Feel Presents “blinked” and decided the minimal profit they stood to make wasn’t worth the financial risk and the headaches.

Hopefully those people who have proven themselves keen to attend (by buying a ticket well in advance) will be able to take advantage of Feel Presents’ generous offer for Adelaide ticket holders to exchange their ticket for one to the Melbourne gig at no extra charge (or else a full refund if preferred).

We can only apologise for the inconvenience and disappointment this has caused everyone and we’ll try to make it up to you somewhere down the track.

Dave
