Billboard.biz reports that Vybz Kartel (given name Adidja Palmer) has been charged with murder, conspiracy to murder and illegal possession of a firearm by Jamaica’s major Investigation Taskforce.

Police arrested Vybz Kartel on September 29 on the charge that he and other men conspired to murder businessman and promoter Barrington ‘Bossie’ Burton on July 11 this year.

Bossie was killed on that day in the Kingston suburb of Portmore.

Kartel was arrested while on the set of his reality dating show Teacha’s Pet, where 20 women compete for his affection, much in the style of Flava Of Love.

Kartel is one of the biggest stars in the Jamaica, and hence global, dancehall scene and has collaborated or appeared on remixes with Eminem, Jay-Z, Rihanna, Akon and Lil Wayne, among others.

Vybz Kartel is no stranger to controversy, having been boycotted internationally for homophobic rhetoric, had his car bombed, and been criticised in Jamaica use of skin-whitening soap.
