Jimmy Barnes Performs At The Funeral Of The Australian Car Industry

Jimmy Barnes was back in his hometown of Adelaide to sing at the funeral of a loved one… the Australia car industry.

The Australian car industry was brutally murdered by former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott who in 2013 slashed half a billion dollars in government funding to the auto industry, rendering it lifeless. (Mind you, the LNP had no trouble finding $122m to invade the privacy of same sex couples in a useless postal survey that could have been solved free of change if they just did their job in Parliament).

This week, the last Australian manufactured Holden was produced. The red, manual VFII Redline V8 Holden Commodore was completed at around 10:45am Friday. 69 years after Labor Prime Minster Ben Chifley welcome the first Holden at the plant, Liberal Prime Minister Abbott caused its demise.

Since 1948 Holden produced 7,687,675 vehicles in Australia. The final vehicle will not be sold, instead kept at Holden’s corporate headquarters in Melbourne.

Jimmy Barnes was there to pay tribute to the 50,000 Holden workers who have lost their job with thanks to Tony Abbott and Joe Hockey.
