Jimmy Buffett Serenades Opening Of His First Margaritaville In California

Jimmy Buffett has opened his first Margaritaville has opened in California.

The latest addition to the Buffett restaurant chain is at CityWalk at Universal Studios in Los Angeles.

“I walked onto the site of CityWalk when it was still under construction, and my first thought was ‘I want a Margaritaville here.’ Thanks to the great folks at Universal, we made it. It’s great to play at the opening and I look forward to visiting regularly on my journeys to the West Coast. Fins Up!”

“Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville is a perfect complement to Universal CityWalk,” said Karen Irwin, President and COO, Universal Studios Hollywood. “With its inviting tropical vibe, incredible selection of Margaritas and signature dishes, Margaritaville offers another exceptional dining experience at CityWalk that everyone can enjoy.”

Jimmy Buffett wrote the 1977 song ‘Margaritaville’ about a drink he discovered at Lung’s Cocina del Sur restaurant on Anderson Lane in Austin, Texas.

That same year he founded the first of his Margaritaville restaurants in Key West, Florida.

As of February 2015, current restaurant locations are in:

• Montego Bay and Negril on the island of Jamaica (both opened 1996)
• Orlando, FL outside the main gate of Universal’s Islands of Adventure (1999)
• Cancun, Mexico at the Flamingo Mall (2002)
• Ocho Rios, Jamaica at Island Village (2002)
• Las Vegas at the Flamingo Hotel (2003)
• Myrtle Beach, SC at the Heroes Harbour section of Broadway at the Beach (2004)
• Grand Turk at the Carnival Cruise Center, in the Turks and Caicos Islands (2006)
• George Town, Grand Cayman in the Cayman Islands (2006)
• Cozumel on the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico, (2007)
• Panama City Beach, FL at Pier Park, opened (2006)

Meanwhile Cleveland is getting the next Margaritaville.

• Cleveland, OH located in The Flats East Bank (opening in 2017)

A new Margaritaville is also planned for the Gold Coast, Australia.

Jimmy Buffett will perform his only Australian show for 2017 at Bluesfest over Easter.
