Medium Build will return to Australia in January 2027 for four headline shows supporting his new album, King Of Having Fun.

American singer-songwriter Medium Build, the project of Nicholas Carpenter, will return to Australia in January 2027 for four headline performances as part of the King Of Having Fun On Tour. The Australian leg will begin at Lion Arts Factory in Adelaide on January 18, followed by shows in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney.
The tour will mark Medium Build’s first Australian performances since a series of visits in 2025, when he played headline dates and appeared as a support act for Role Model and Alex Warren. This time, the shows will centre on King Of Having Fun, a new studio album that follows his 2024 record Country and represents a change in the way Carpenter approaches recording.
The Australian dates form part of a wider international touring schedule for Medium Build. The King Of Having Fun On Tour begins with North American headline shows in October 2026, followed by dates in Europe, the UK and Australia. Several of the North American performances have already sold out, according to the tour announcement.
King Of Having Fun was recorded live in the studio with Carpenter’s friends and collaborators, moving away from the bedroom-based production associated with some of his earlier work. The record incorporates indie, lo-fi, country and rock influences, with a larger live-band sound and an emphasis on direct songwriting.
The album follows a period of significant change for Carpenter. The material addresses recovery, personal reassessment and the experience of adjusting to increased attention as his audience has expanded. His earlier work was largely built around intimate songwriting and home recording, while the new album was developed in a more collaborative studio environment.
Medium Build’s Australian connection has developed rapidly over the past two years. In 2025, Carpenter undertook headline performances in Australia and New Zealand before returning later in the year as a special guest on Alex Warren’s national tour. He also played intimate headline shows in Melbourne and Sydney during that visit.
His broader international profile expanded during the same period. Medium Build performed at major American festivals including Coachella, Outside Lands and Austin City Limits, while previous touring associations have included Briston Maroney, Tyler Childers, Lewis Capaldi and FINNEAS.
Carpenter began releasing music as Medium Build in 2016 after moving to Alaska. His early catalogue included Falling Apart, followed by Softboy and Roughboy in 2018 and Wild in 2019. He subsequently released the Health EP and its live counterpart, Health – Live From RCA Studio A, in 2023.
The collaboration “Friend For Life” with X Ambassadors gave Carpenter his first Billboard chart entry in 2023, reaching No. 17 on the Alternative Digital Song Sales chart. The following year brought Country and the Marietta EP, which included “Yoke”, a collaboration with Julien Baker.
That period also saw Carpenter broaden his festival and collaborative work, including an appearance on Holly Humberstone’s version of “Cocoon” and a support appearance for Julien Baker in Los Angeles. The progression from independent recordings to festival stages and larger touring opportunities provides the backdrop for King Of Having Fun.
The Australian tour also places Medium Build within a broader touring cycle that will take him across three major international markets around the release of the new album. Rather than returning solely as a support act, the January shows give Carpenter four headline opportunities in Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney.
The Australian dates are scheduled for January 18 at Lion Arts Factory in Adelaide, January 19 at the Corner Hotel in Melbourne, January 22 at The Triffid in Brisbane and January 23 at the Metro Theatre in Sydney. All four shows are listed as 18+ events.
