MKTO look like having a number one debut album in Australia over this weekend while Pharrell could be struggling to keep the top of the singles chart with Christina Aguilera giving him competition.

ALBUMS

The duo of Malcolm Kelley (MK) and Tony Oller (TO) are better known as MKTO and the boys look to be on track to enter at the top of the ARIA Albums chart this weekend with their self-titled debut album.

The album has already garnered three charting singles, “Thank You” (HP-2), “Classic” (HP-9) and “God Only Knows” (HP-11, TW-13), and Australia and New Zealand have been the boys’ best selling territories. Last weeks No.1 in “True” by Avicii should remain within the Top 5, as too Lorde, whilst INXS could climb back up with “The Very Best”, ahead of the Channel 7 mini-series starting this Sunday night. Rufus could see their debut album “Atlas” (HP-1, TW-17) back within the Top 10, alongside Beyonce and a possible Top 10 debut for the new Jezabels album entitled “The Brink”. There’s also the possibility that Bruno Mars’ “Unorthodox Jukebox” (TW-25) might also be back inside the Top 10 after his Super Bowl half-time performance.

With the possibility of A Great Big World taking the new No.1 spot, their album “Is There Anybody Out There?” (TW-50) could jump up into the Top 20, whilst ahead of her national tour (starts Feb 11th) Dolly Parton could land within the Top 30 with her new album “Blue Smoke” this week. The new No.1 album in the UK this week, You Me at Six and “Cavalier Youth” could land here within the high end of the Top 40,whilst Bruno Mars’ “Doo-Wops & Hooligans” (dropped out this week) could return within the Top 50.

The self-titled album for The 1975 could return within the Top 60, whilst the Toni Braxton and Babyface duets album “Love, Marriage & Divorce” could debut within the Top 70. Above & Beyond could see their “Acoustic” album enter within the Top 80 and Thrive might enter with their set “Casting Crowns” (Top 90).

SINGLES

Pharrell could either hang on for a sixth week to the top spot in Australian with “Happy”, or he could be dethroned by “Say Something”, the debut track for A Great Big World, which features Christina Aguilera, and has been used in the promos for the third season of Revenge (which started back on our TVs this week).

Avicii could land his third Top 10 from last weeks No.1 album “True”, as “Addicted to You” could leap into the Top 5 after his recent tour here, plus the song is being used in the promos for the Channel 9 upcoming series ‘Love Child’. “Free” for Rudimental and Emeli Sande could be on track for a fourth week at No.5, whilst last weeks highest new entry at No.21 of “Jump” by Rihanna could live up to its name and jump into the Top 10 this coming weekend. John Legend, Magic, Joel Fletcher & Savage as well as Jason DeRulo should all retain their Top 10 status, whilst Aloe Blacc could make it into the ten with his new single “The Man”.

After three weeks swimming around the lower end of the Top 20, Kim Cesarion should jump up into the Top 15 this coming weekend with “Undressed”, whilst the newly released clip for Shakira and Rihanna’s “Can’t Remember to Forget You” (TW-36) should help the song to rebound into the Top 20, with a possible debut within that region for 5 Seconds of Summer and their track “She Looks so Perfect”.

After jumping to No.37 this week, American Authors’ track “Best Day of My Life” looks set for a high Top 30 placing this week, as too Beyonce with “Drunk in Love” (TW-41). Sara Bareilles snuck in her second ever ARIA Singles chart appearance last week with “Brave” (TW-96), which looks set to rocket into the Top 40 this coming weekend, whilst OneRepublic and Alesso could also enter that area with the remix of “If I Lose Myself”.

“Headlights” for Eminem and Nate Ruess (from Fun) debuted at No.74 this week and it looks set to jump into the Top 50, whilst the current UK No.1 single (for a second week) could debut in the same region, Clean Bandit with Jess Glynne and their track “Rather Be”, and if Kylie Minogue were to debut this week, her new single “Into the Blue” might enter within the Top 50, whilst “Tear it Down” for The Aston Shuffle (dropped out this week) could return to the charts around No.50.

The new Presets track “Goodbye Future” could debut this week within the Top 60, whilst newcomer JTR could enter with “Ride” (Top 70). The new U2 track “Invisible (Red)” could chart within the Top 80 alongside Foxes with “Let Go for Tonight” and the return of several tracks from Super Bowl half-time performer Bruno Mars, who could re-enter with “Locked out of Heaven”, “Just the Way You Are” and “Treasure”.

The Broods should return with their “Bridges” track (it dropped out this week), whilst new lower chart entries could come from MKTO with “Forever Until Tomorrow”, Karmin and “I Want it All”, the new track for HAIM entitled “If I Could Change Your Mind” and the first entry for Mikhael Paskalev entitled “I Spy”, which sounds a bit like Of Monsters & Men mashed with The Stray Cats (IMO).

Why Streaming Charts Cannot Be Compared To The Physical Sales Era

by Paul Cashmere The modern music charts used by ARIA, Billboard and the UK's Official Charts Company now measure an entirely different form of consumer behaviour than the charts of the vinyl, cassette and CD eras. While chart headlines frequently compare contemporary streaming milestones with historical sales achievements, industry analysts increasingly acknowledge that the two systems are built on fundamentally incompatible metrics.
