Sam Smith Says He Has Peaked

Singer Sam Smith jokes he doesn’t need to win anymore awards because his career has already peaked.

Smith and his co-writer Jimmy Napes took home a Golden Globe Award in the Best Original Song in a Motion Picture category over the weekend (9-10Jan16) for their track Writing’s on the Wall – a tune that appears on the soundtrack for James Bond film Spectre.

Smith has already won 22 awards in his career, including four Grammys, and he jokes he doesn’t need another trophy.

“Enough is enough now,” he laughed to E! News. “We peaked.”

In all honestly Smith is amazed he was able to pen and sing a tune for a 007 film.

“I thought we won when we got to do the Bond thing,” he shared. “As soon as we got to do that, it was incredible. Obviously the awards are important, but I felt like I won in that sense and just to get it feels really weird.”

Although he is able to hold the Golden Globe in his hand, the accolade still feels surreal for Smith.

The Stay With Me singer simply can’t believe his music has become so popular he is able to pick up an award at a ceremony normally reserved for television and film stars.

“I’m in complete shock to be honest with you,” he said. “I just didn’t think it was going to happen tonight. We’ve been here just enjoying it, just looking at everyone, it’s just weird.

“It’s not our world but we feel very welcomed, which is beautiful.”

The 73rd Golden Globe Awards took place in Los Angeles on Sunday (10Jan16).
