With the continuing growth of repugnance for the Melbourne Cup, Jon Stevens has suggested a different way to celebrate the day … consider it Noiseworks Day.
Noiseworks became a thing on Melbourne Cup Day 1982. Jon posted on his Facebook page, “I always celebrate the fact that on this day in 1982 Stuart Fraser and I met up in a pub in Sydney and the band known as Noiseworks began. So whether you agree with horse racing or not, Noiseworks fans can call this a great day.”
Stevens and Fraser called their band The Change. Steve Balbi and Kevin Nicol joined a year later and then American Justin Stanley entered in 1986 and the band became Noiseworks.
The first single ‘No Lies’ generated Noisework’s first hit.
Three albums later, Noiseworks had generated nine Top 40 hits in Australia. The third album, 1991’s ‘Love Versus Money’ would be their last.
Jon Stevens is currently touring on the One Electric Day shows around Australia.
